- Working knowledge of fundamental baking techniques (e.g., creams, breads, sponge cakes, cookies)
- Ability to follow recipes accurately and perform measurement conversions
- Strong work ethic with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Flexibility is essential as there is no set schedule for this position; hours may vary depending on workload
WAGE:
- Starts at minimum wage ($17.13 an hour) with annual raises
SCHEDULE & HOURS:
The kitchen schedule is based on our monthly classes and market preparation. Kitchen schedules are usually finalized 4 weeks in advance. This position works out to roughly about 80 hours per month, spread out over a 1.5 full time week per month + 3 weeks with 2 class shifts per week.
Class Prep (6 shifts per month):
- Involves prep for our culinary/baking classes
- 6 shifts per month on average
- Typically on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays (occasionally Fridays)
- Generally 6-8 hour shifts beginning at 9 am
Markets (approx. 1.5 weeks of prep per month):
- Involves kitchen prep for our monthly retail day
- Approx. 1.5 full time weeks of prep per month
- Prep schedules usually run Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Market day shift generally from 4:00 AM – 12:00 PM
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare a variety of creams (e.g., buttercream, custards, curds)
- Prepare cookie doughs, including portioning and cutting
- Work with bread preparation and baking
- Work with chocolate for various applications
- Assemble standard bakery desserts according to company quality standards
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all work areas and equipment
- Assist with additional baking-related tasks as needed
